Audible Writing Experiments

Installation

Projection of each of these videos (4), on the four walls of a room, so the writing surrounds the spectator. The sound from the videos varies some times is louder than the rest.

This is an environment for the spectator to experience language as a virtual world of abstract sounds and symbols in its visual and audible representation. It is a sound and video installation of the process of writing based on how to be able to fill in a space, such as a page. The image of writing created becomes quite textural, producing what looks like a knitted surface.

Underneath the white background there are English pronunciation sounds. I am very interested in the idea of internal and external sounds as a representation of our own speech which, is linked to the idea of the emotional and the learnt language. I used ‘meaningless’ phonetic sounds as the basic elements used in speech. I attached additional external sounds such as conversations, TV and radio to create soundscapes of variable pitch and strength.
